Here at Mindvalley, we love our moms.
Whether in big ways or small, mothers always seem to know exactly what to do to help and guide us through our lives. Call it wisdom, call it unconditional love – whatever it is, mothers really do have a special gift.
And so, we’d like to take a few moments to appreciate all that our moms have done for us.
As a special tribute to Mother’s Day, we asked Mindvalley employees to talk about the impact their moms have had on their lives. From stories of single moms doing everything they can to provide for their kids, to feminist superheroes going against the grain of their home country, each employee had a different and yet equally touching story about the main lady in their lives.
Don’t forget to read until the end, where you will have the chance to receive free access to a Mindvalley course!
Oh, and get your tissues ready – the responses are guaranteed to make you cry
Lee (Canada)
My mom lived under the reign of a loveless, tyrannical mother and ultimately decided that the streets would provide a better home for her than the one she had.
After years of struggling to find her way, she decided to work for free at a local car dealership to learn the tools of the trade. She was mocked and not taken seriously for years (it’s mainly a male-dominated industry). Today she is a director of one of the largest car dealerships in Western Canada.
While working 6 days a week, she gave my sisters and I the opportunities, support and unshakable love she never got from her own mom. If I could provide for and inspire my family even half as much as my mom does for hers, I would consider my life to be far beyond fulfilled.
Oh, and she’s a kickass dancer to boot
Abed (Syria)
My mum had to raise four kids on her own after my dad passed away when we were young. She completely dedicated herself to our growth and made sure we finished our education.
During the war in my country, she lost her eldest son. No parent deserves to outlive their child. And even though she was devastated and heartbroken, somehow, she still managed to build a happy life for our family in hard times. My mom is a real-life hero and my role model. No one else in my life has helped me as much as she has.
تعجز كلماتي عن اظهار مدى شكري و امتناني لك أمي. لا أعلم كيف لي ان أرد لك بعضاً من جميلك عليّ. أحبك أمي.
(Thank you so much for all you have done mom. I will never be able to repay you for the things that you have given to me and the things you have done for me. I love you.)
Joanna (Poland)
My mom is a superhero – she fought together with other students for the sovereignty of Poland in the ’80s and established the first feminist organizations in the country. She started a consulting company when capitalism was still a novelty in Central Europe and led “Equal Pay Day” campaigns so that me and other girls can live better lives.
She taught me to think and dream big and showed me the world through stories, friends, books and travels. Thank you, mom, for making EVERYTHING possible – I wouldn’t have grown and spread my wings without you by my side.
Dziękuję Mamo za wszystko. Kocham
(Thanks mom for everything. Love you.)
Diana (Brazil)
At one point, my mom was laid-off from her job as an engineer and decided to start her own business. While she was building it up, I still remember how she would make it home in time to read a bedtime story for my brother and I.
I don’t really understand how she found the energy to read a bedtime story after an entire day of stress and frustration. But for her, it was a no-brainer – she knew it would fuel our imagination and creativity. I am forever grateful for her relentless effort to be there for us.
Feliz dia das mães! Eu te amo!
(Happy Mother’s Day! I love you!)
Marija (Lithuania)
My mom is a superwoman. She raised me and my little sister alone in our early years, while working a full-time job and studying for a Masters degree.I’ve always looked up to her because even with so much work and really naughty kids, she provided eternal love, care and support. She is the reason I believe I can achieve anything I want, if I set my mind and attention to it. She’s my idol and hero – the strongest, smartest, and most beautiful woman in the world.
Aš tave myliu, mama.
(I love you, mom.)
Angela (USA)
Growing up, my mom was nothing short of a superstar. She raised three girls almost on her own, worked full-time and cooked beautiful meals for lunch and dinner everyday. I’ll never forget the times she would come into my room while I was studying for a big exam and perform a cheerleader song and dance for me. She was cheering me on to work hard, kick butt, and stay strong! Her form of support has always comes in fun and creative packages. I think of these moments often when I face a difficulty in my life.
Best of all, her favorite thing to do is cuddle with her three girls – my sisters and I are now in our 20s and 30s but she still insists we all cuddle and hug when we make a visit home.
I know everybody says “their mom is the best” but I’ve honestly never met anybody as caring, fair and kind as my mom. Not just to me and my sister, but to everybody. She’s just a pure, beautiful, loving soul dedicated to making everyone around her feel good. Somehow, she knows exactly what is going on in my life without me mentioning anything. The age difference makes absolutely no difference, she is everything to me – mother, best friend, soulmate.
Kõige ilusamat emadepäeva, maailma parim emme! Armastan Sind kogu südamest!
(Happy Mother’s Day to the best mom in the world! Love you from the bottom of my heart!)
My mom quit her safe government job to follow her dream of becoming an artist. Actually, when I moved to the other side of the world, my old room became her studio. Now, her art is bringing joy to people’s lives and making the world a better place. She is a living reminder that you should always follow your passion. She constantly reminds me about this by asking me if I’m happy and by supporting me in every decision I make. I’m the happiest daughter of the best mom in the world. Люблю тебя моя Мамуля красатуля, Твоя Настя (Love you, my beautiful mom. Your Nastya.) Ronan (Brazil) When I was a kid, I wanted to be a superhero so, my mom hung a towel on my back so that I had a cape. When I was a teenager, I played in a band and wanted to be a rockstar, so my mom made me a top hat so I would look like Slash, my guitar idol. When I decided to leave it all behind and move to another country as a full-time volunteer, she hugged me and prepared sandwiches for the trip. No matter what crazy decision I make, my mom has supported me every single time, and often she was the only person who did. I believe in unconditional love and it’s because she showed me that it exists. I love you, mom. Gautam (India) My mother is a science teacher, mentor to underprivileged kids, reiki master, practitioner of naturopathy, acupressure, color therapy… and the best cook in the world! On every important day of my life (an exam, interview, or even when I was learning to ride a bike), my mom would sit in her meditation room to send me positive reiki energy for hours. Every time, I would be in a positive state of mind and deliver my best. She did this for all three of her children. No matter where I am in the world, I can feel the comfort of her energy with me at all times. Dhanyawaad Maa, Bohot Saara Pyaar! Stephanie (Australia) My mum has always been my rock; my guide; my partner in crime. She is an incredible woman who has always refused to be a part of the status quo. She follows the beat of her own drum, and has never allowed others to dictate how she should live her life. On top of that, she’s always been my biggest cheerleader; there for me when no one else was. A few years ago, mum got sick and I regularly took her to the hospital to get treatment. Even through it all, we still managed to make it fun, going to brunch and spending time together in the car. In truth, I felt relieved that I was able to repay even a fraction of the love and care she has always shown me. I feel so blessed to have such a strong, kind, infinitely warm and utterly hilarious woman in my life, leading by example and showing me that it feels good to be true to yourself. Colton (USA) When I was born, my mom was dispatched to South Korea by the Air Force for one year. As you can imagine, being away from your son for the first year can be incredibly hard for a new mother. But my mom did what she had to, and I respect her for it. Today she encourages me to relentlessly pursue my goals for a greater good – no matter what self-sacrifice is required. Because my mom stood bold in the face of fear, now when I have to turn away from what’s comfortable to face my purpose, I think of her brazenness. I love you mom – stay awesome. When I was about 15 years old, I saw my mom take a plane and return after a few months with a new name. She had shaved her head and was wearing a red and yellow robe. She had become a Buddhist nun. I rejected and questioned her decision over the years. She had given up on so many things that we all value and identify with so much: her job, possessions, and her appearance. Not many people do that. Eventually, I saw the courage behind her decision. How she stayed true to herself, chose a difficult path and followed her heart. You are an inspiration mom. (It is the details, what happens during the day-to-day, those things that seem small but in reality, say a lot. All the meals prepared, hospital emergencies, the laughs, the pampering. I believe the most special moment for me was when I realized that you need a very pure and real kind of love to do (and sacrifice) all the things my mom did for me – to know that someone can love in such a way is truly powerful!) Sam (USA) My mom adopted me into her family and her heart the second I came into this world. She has always supported my wild, far-fetched dreams. This is the last picture we took together before I moved halfway around the world to live my dreams and work for Mindvalley. My life is beyond amazing, and I owe it all to you, mom. You will always be the most important woman in my life. I miss you terribly, and love you dearly.
(Thanks ma, I love you the most!)
(I love you mom!)
